Attempted Assault And Stalking Reported Near Lion Shrine

An attempted assault and stalking was reported at Penn State this morning near the Lion Shrine, according to a timely warning announcement from Penn State Police. The anonymous victim reported an unknown male allegedly grabbed her from behind at the corner of Burrowes Road and Curtin Road and attempted to drag her from the sidewalk into the woods behind the Lion Shrine.

The incident, which was reported to have occurred at 1:01 a.m., was reported to police by 1:16 a.m. and a timely warning was sent out by 2:17 a.m. The suspect is a white male in his 30s according to the report. Though police searched the area immediately, they were unable to find the man and much of his description remains unknown.

Between summer session and Arts Fest, there are still a number of people on campus despite it being the middle of July. It is important to always be aware of your surroundings, and university police offered tips including using the buddy system, avoiding deserted areas, and cross the street, yell, and run to a well-lit or occupied area if you feel like you are being followed.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact university police at (814) 863-1111.
