The Blue & White Society booked notable cover band and THON’s unforgettable closer Go Go Gadjet to perform a free concert on the recently re-opened HUB lawn to close out the remainder of PSi(heart)U. This marks the first show the band has put on at the HUB lawn in five years due to expansion construction.

The band opened at 6:15 p.m. with Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and flew through songs off of the Top-40 list like “Stressed Out” and “Honey, I’m Good.” Though there was a decent turn out, the crowd was hesitant to get on its feet in the daylight. Fortunately, that didn’t stop the “entertainment machine” from trying to liven up the lackadaisical throng of people.

As the sun glare on the windows of the new Biobehavioral Health building started to fade, the cover band lit up the crowd with hip-hop classics like Outkast’s “Rosa Parks,” Timbaland’s “The Way I Are,” and, of course, “SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake. Eventually, the mass of student made its way to the area in front of the stage, dancing and singing along to the lyrics.

Once the sun finally set, Go Go Gadjet entered its comfort zone as it blared clever mash-ups of EDM anthems and hits from the early 2000s. The band’s colorful spotlights finally beamed through the smoke machines and danced around a now-animated cluster of students that rushed the steps to the front of the stage.

In what was arguably the best moment of the performance, three of the band’s singers whipped out drums made from plastic buckets and pounded on them while its two guitarists ripped solos from classic, heavy metal songs like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” and Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls On Parade.” Glow sticks and beach balls filled the air, and the HUB lawn was finally rocking again.

Go Go Gadjet closed its two-hour set with high-energy versions of “Shut Up and Dance” and the always-popular “Uptown Funk.” Once again, the group gave an extremely lively show to their biggest fans at Penn State, leaving no one disappointed and everyone in THON withdrawal.
