Troy’s Philadelphia Style Hoagies Opening In Former Callao Café Location

It’s a hoagie, not a sub, and it’s coming back to the State College area.

Troy’s Philadelphia Style Hoagies is returning to Happy Valley more than a decade after the family sandwich shop closed its doors in Bellefonte, the Centre Daily Times first reported. The restaurant, which will offer a taste of classic Philly sandwiches for all of you who come from “just outside,” will open in the former location of Callao Café on W. Aaron Drive. Callao Café, a small French-inspired crepe shop, closed in March when owner David Price cited personal health reasons.

Troy’s Philadelphia Style Hoagies owner, operator, and family man Troy Guenot is reviving the restaurant after spending some time in the very different oil and gas industry. Guenot, a father of seven, will manage the business alongside his daughter while two of his other children handle daily operations.

“I’m a big people person,” Guenot told the CDT. “I like just serving a good, quality product, and bringing a bit of Philadelphia to Happy Valley.”

According to the CDT, Troy’s menu will feature 18 varieties of cold-cut hoagies, as well as cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks, wings, fries, salads, wraps, and burgers. In addition to the storefront, patrons will have the opportunity to order online and Troy’s will offer catering as well.

Guenot is hoping to have the place up and running by early August, giving students an opportunity to try it out when they come back to school for the fall. If you live that far off campus and are hoping for another late-night grub option, you’ll have to look elsewhere as Troy’s will only be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., but those hours will be the same every day of the week.
