[Photo Story] Best Outdoor Study Spots For A Socially Distanced Semester

While you’re enrolled at Zoom University and social distancing is all the rage here at Penn State, you’re bound to spend a lot more time outside than inside.

Whether you’re listening to professors struggle to use their newfound gadgets or fighting with your roommate who refuses to use headphones during their classes, remote learning can get old pretty fast.

But don’t fret. There are options to escape! Penn State is jam-packed with outdoor study spaces. They can help you focus, get away from the chaos, and begin to fully settle in as this unique semester gets underway.

Simple, classic, and relaxing: Old Main Lawn is an easy spot to sprawl out and get your work done while staring at Penn State’s most iconic facade.

Another great study space (and a personal favorite) is the duck pond located next to the Hintz Family Alumni Center and behind Sackett Building. Sit by the pond, crack open a textbook, and watch your feathered friends swim about.

Another spot you may overlook is the Peace Garden, a quiet little area nestled between the hustle and bustle of the HUB and Old Main.

Like Old Main, another popular spot is the HUB Lawn. The HU Lawn is a picturesque, open space, meaning it’s easy to social distance or hang with friends from a safe distance. Although its grass is looking a little dry these days, it should bounce back and become its typical green self once temperatures dip as the semester goes on.

Last but certainly not least is the Arboretum. Located across from the East Residence Halls, the Arboretum is one of the most beautiful areas on campus. Not only is it filled with gorgeous flowers and plants, but places to learn, too! There are countless places to settle down and get focused.

Nothing says “study break” more like a relaxing stroll around the Arboretum’s grounds, eh?

Get creative and get outside, folks. There’s plenty of places to go. Wherever you go, wear a mask!
