Former Penn State men’s hockey goalie Peyton Jones has inked a one-year contract with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche for the 2020-2021 season.

Jones previously signed a two-year contract with the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, in May of last year. Jones’ former contract allowed him to play in both minor league affiliates of the organization, and he spent the first part of this season with their ECHL team, the Utah Grizzlies, alongside fellow former teammate, Kris Myllari.

In eight games played, Jones has a goals-against average (GAA) of 3.10 and a .889 save percentage. While with the Grizzlies he went 4-2-2.

Jones new contract with the Colorado Avalanche allows him to play in the major league in addition to both minor leagues.

While with the Nittany Lions program, Jones received many accolades, including being ranked the No. 1 all-time goaltender for games played/started (133), minutes played (7866:20), victories (76) and saves (3,685). His 42 career Big Ten victories are a conference record and he ranks second all-time in tournament victories with eight.

During his senior season he was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention, was a two-time Big Ten Star of the Week, and was a 2019-2020 Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
