Former Penn State Men’s Hockey Assistant Coach Matt Lindsay Heads To UMass

Former Penn State men’s hockey assistant coach Matt Lindsay is leaving the program after nine years to head to UMass.

Over his nearly decade-long tenure with the Nittany Lions’ program, Lindsay assisted the team in reaching the NCAA Tournament twice and winning a Big Ten Tournament in 2017. He also helped lead the team to its first Big Ten regular-season championship in the 2019-20 season.

Lindsay, current Nittany Lions assistant coach Keith Fisher, and head coach Guy Gadowsky have been a team since the trio united at Princeton in 2007. They led the Tigers to two NCAA tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009 and the 2008 ECAC Ivy League Championships.

Prior to his time at Princeton and Penn State, Lindsay was an assistant coach at Robert Morris for the 2006-2007 season, an assistant coach at Hobart College (2002-2005), and an assistant coach at Utica College (2001-2002).

Lindsay attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and graduated in 2001.

“We are very excited to welcome Matt Lindsay to our program,” UMass head coach Greg Carvel in a statement. “Matt is one of the most experienced and well-respected assistant coaches in college hockey. He has a long track record of impressive recruiting which has resulted in championship-level teams at Penn State and Princeton. Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism with him to UMass and is known as one of the hardest working recruiters on the circuit. Beyond all of that, he is a high-quality person and he will add to the culture of our program.”
