Penn State Men’s Soccer Racks Up Big Ten Postseason Honors

After winning this year’s Big Ten regular-season title, Penn State men’s soccer received a handful of postseason honors from the conference

Head coach Jeff Cook, who managed to secure the Nittany Lions’ first regular-season title since 2013 in just his fourth year as head coach, was unanimously voted as the Big Ten Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. He led the Nittany Lions to a 10-6-1 record in the regular season.

Additionally, midfielder Peter Mangione was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year following an impressive sophomore season. He scored six goals this season, including a hat trick against Villanova.

Mangione landed on the All-Big Ten First Team alongside defensive redshirt-senior Brandon Hackenberg, who helped Penn State limit its opponents to one or fewer goals in 13 of the Nittany Lions’ 17 games this regular season.

The Nittany Lions’ star trio of midfielders, Andrew Privett, Pierre Reedy, and Seth Kuhn all landed on the All-Big Ten Second Team. The three combined for 12 goals, seven of which came from Privett. Seth Kuhn notched two of those scores when he led the Nittany Lions to a 2-0 victory over Wisconsin to secure the regular-season title.

Finally, junior Alex Stevenson received the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, one of which is awarded to a player on each Big Ten team. The defenseman started all 17 games this season, putting up three total assists for the season and helping the Nittany Lions to five shutouts.

Penn State plays its first match of the Big Ten Tournament at Jeffery Field this Sunday at 4 p.m. against Michigan State.
