Penn State’s week three matchup with Auburn really moved the needle, folks.

The game was the most-watched college football game of the week on any network, according to a CBS Sports spokesperson. Penn State’s 41-12 win over Auburn averaged more than 4 million viewers. ShowBuzzDaily reported that the number was 4.054 million viewers.

CBS Sports noted that Birmingham, Alabama, led all metered markets with a 16.3 Household Rating.

History was made when the two teams kicked off on Saturday, as it was the first time a Big Ten team played at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Additionally, it was the first time Penn State football aired on CBS since 2000, or, since Tom Brady was an NFL rookie.

Penn State cruised to victory over Auburn on the heels of an effective running game and a dominant defensive performance. True freshmen Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen combined for four rushing touchdowns, while the Nittany Lions’ defense forced four turnovers and totaled six sacks.

James Franklin’s squad beat up on the Tigers so badly that the team’s official Twitter account has yet to even post the final score from the game. Additionally, the Nittany Lions jumped up to No. 14 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll following the convincing victory.

Next up for Penn State is a noon kickoff against Central Michigan on Saturday, September 24, at Beaver Stadium. The game will air on the Big Ten Network.
