[Photo Story] Penn State’s First Snow Of The Season

It’s about that time of the year again, folks. On Tuesday, State College recorded its first snowfall of the season — the same day Downtown State College put up the Christmas tree on Allen Street.

Happy Valley is once again transforming into a winter wonderland, and students were stoked! By the early afternoon, a sheet of snow settled on campus, and folks were getting in the festive spirit.

Our photographers braced the cold and set out to capture campus and downtown in all of its powdery glory.

Campus was oh so dreamy. As students walked to class, much of campus seemed untouched.

“The CEO” statue located on the Hintz Plaza outside of the Business Building overlooked the slushy goodness.

So much for no-snow November.

Plenty of students broke out their winter coats and headed to and from class amid the wintry mix.

By Tuesday evening, three to five inches of snow were reported in the area. Students created human-sized snowmen on the HUB Lawn that made for quite the photo-op.

A group hanging out on the HUB Lawn rolled a massive snowball into the HUB and proceeded to chant, “We Are. Penn State!” Classic.

Dozens of students played in the snow into the late hours of Tuesday night. One group joined hands and sang Christmas carols around the massive snowmen.

The modern designs of the Millenium Science Complex and Biomedical Engineering Building accented the natural snow.

There’s truly nothing like the stillness of campus after a snowfall.

Other students were quick to return to the dorms to get out of the frigid temperatures. Many parts of campus were desolate.

Happy first snow day, Penn State!
