Washington Commanders Release Former Penn State Defensive Back Troy Apke
Former Penn State defensive back Troy Apke has been released by the Washington Commanders, as announced by the team on Saturday.
Apke was previously cut by Washington in August before re-signing with the team’s practice squad in October. The Nittany Lion didn’t record any game stats over the course of his latest stint.
Apke was drafted by Washington in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the No. 109 overall pick. The Pittsburgh native appeared in 50 games, including nine starts, and logged 68 tackles and an interception.
After his contract expired following the 2021 season, the Commanders inked him to a one-year deal.
In his four-year career in Happy Valley from 2014 to 2017, Apke recorded 105 tackles and a pair of interceptions. After his senior season in 2017, the defensive back earned an honorable All-Big Ten mention.
