Former Penn State Hoops Signee Carey Booth Enters Transfer Portal From Notre Dame

Former Penn State men’s basketball signee Carey Booth announced he will enter the transfer portal after one year at Notre Dame under head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

Booth is the son of Nittany Lion legend and Denver Nuggets General Manager Calvin Booth.

“I’m beyond thankful for getting to wear the blue and gold this year,” Booth’s Instagram story read. “I’m especially thankful to Coach Shrewsberry and his staff for believing in me and bringing me to South Bend. With that being said, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal to keep all of my options open – including a return to Notre Dame.”

Booth, a power forward, tallied an average of 6.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.8 turnovers per game in his debut season in South Bend. The 6’10” freshman appeared in 33 games and averaged 19.9 minutes per outing.

Booth committed to Penn State in August 2022 over offers from Vanderbilt, Purdue, Michigan, Miami, and over a dozen others. At the time of his commitment, Booth ranked as the second-highest-rated recruit in Penn State history behind Tony Carr.

The four-star power forward requested his release from the Nittany Lions just one day following the reported announcement of Shrewsberry’s hiring at Notre Dame on March 22.

He departed Happy Valley with the entirety of Shrewsberry’s incoming Class of 2022 which featured Braeden Shrewsberry and Logan Imes. The trio transferred to the Fighting Irish.
