Former Nebraska Guard Eli Rice Transfers To Penn State Hoops

Mike Rhoades secured another commit.

Former Nebraska guard Eli Rice committed to transfer to Penn State men’s basketball, per his Instagram. Rice is the third transfer pickup for the Nittany Lions this offseason, joining Yanic Konan Niederhauser and Kachi Nzeh.

A native of Gallatin, Tennessee, Rice spent his true freshman season with the Cornhuskers. In his first season in Lincoln, he appeared in 17 games, averaging 4.2 points and 1.6 rebounds a game while shooting 37% from three and 41.3% from the field.

Before enrolling at Nebraska, Rice attended IMG Academy. While at IMG, he helped the school go 24-3 and reach the quarterfinals of the National Prep Championship. During his sole season at IMG, Rice averaged 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists per game.

Before his senior season at IMG, Rice attended Beech High School in 2021-22 where he was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s all-state high school boys basketball teams in Class 4A and was named the Sumner County Player of the Year. While at Beech High, he was recruited by Rhoades when he was coaching at VCU. Rice brings three years of eligibility remaining to Penn State.
