[Photo Story] Penn State vs. Northwestern

Penn State lost to Northwestern again, this time on the Wildcats’ opening day at New Ryan Field.

After a heartbreaking Big Ten opener loss to Wisconsin in Week 4, the Nittany Lions looked to redeem themselves and get a conference win. Penn State stayed on the back foot, though, and suffered a 34-13 loss.

Of course, our photographers captured all the action at New Ryan Field.

The stage was set for the inaugural matchup in New Ryan Field.

Penn State players were among the first to take it all in.

The team took to the field in its road whites to boos from the Wildcat Wall ahead of the big game.

The Nittany Lions didn’t start the game strong and couldn’t create anything substantial, but they held the Wildcats to 10 points to end the first quarter.

Penn State finally found the end zone behind a Carson Hansen 8-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 10-7 with 10:39 left in the second frame.

Northwestern took off running and took a 24-7 lead to end the half.

It was almost all downhill from there. Penn State started the second half almost as badly as the first.

No, Brett Eskildsen did not catch this ball.

The Nittany Lions secured one more touchdown but failed on their two-point conversion, bringing the score to 31-13.

Northwestern secured a 37-yard field goal with 2:17 remaining. The Wildcats knelt the clock out to win 34-13.

The Nittany Lions return to Beaver Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday to take on No. 19 USC in the White Out.
