In the wake of the heinous charges against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and the subsequent perjury charges facing Athletic Director Tim Curley and Vice President for Business and Finance Gary Schultz, students are left frustrated, angry and let down by their university and its administration.
For several weeks, the big TV side of the first floor of the HUB has remained under the control of the Occupy Penn State movement. However, for the angry collective that wants all of their comfy chairs back, no longer fret, for the occupiers are leaving the HUB this Monday. No, they have not admitted defeat. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Occupy Penn State is turning up the burners and making the move to Old Main Lawn. And they want YOU!
The pinnacle of cowardliness was reached late Tuesday morning, at a time where only honesty will save the school and program from itself.
Penn State and Jerry Sandusky. For the foreseeable future, those two names will go hand in hand. The Sandusky story will lead every Penn State football game, questions about Joe Paterno's involvement will dominate every television broadcast, and this football season will forever be remembered for what happened off the field.
The biggest questions for the Penn State football team this week will be about distractions. Will the team be able to ignore the scandal? Should they ignore it? Will it be possible to focus wholly on the Nebraska game on Saturday when Paterno and Mike McQueary are directly involved with the situation?
I think the answers to all those questions is "yes."
In their only planned Pennsylvania stop for their 2012, alternative rockers Rise Against will play the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, January 29, at 7 p.m.
Penn State is regarded as one of the nation’s finest academic intuitions, but when a crisis emerged; no one stepped up. No one did, well, anything.
