College of Communications Offering More WF Classes

As previously announced last semester, Penn State is planning on moving away from Monday/Wednesday classes in favor of more Monday/Wednesday/Friday sections. However, for the Fall 2011 semester, the College of Communications is offering more courses meeting only on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The change stems from University administration’s desire to maximize utilization of facilities and to provide a more even distribution of time in the classroom during the week. While the University said that alcohol was not a factor in making this decision, Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims told The Collegian that he was pleased about initiatives that lengthen the academic week and keeps the weekend to a “two-day affair”.

Currently, a majority of sections of courses offered within the College of Communications take place either on Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays, which makes scheduling a three-day weekend much easier for students enrolling in COMM courses. But, fear not, COMM majors! There’s still hope for a three-day weekend.

Next semester, many sections of Communications classes will be offered as Wednesday and Friday courses. A few of the courses that will run sections on these days are COMM 260W, COMM 282, COMM 360 and COMM 420.

Other majors and disciplines are also offering Wednesday/Friday courses, but besides Music and Theatre, none offer as wide of a selection of courses.

If students choose to schedule their three-day weekends for Mondays rather than Fridays, will Sunday Funday become the new Thirsty Thursday?
