Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’ To Dazzle Eisenhower Auditorium This Weekend

This weekend, the stage of Eisenhower Auditorium will transform into the Latin Quarter of Paris, France for Penn State Opera Theatre’s production of Giacomo Puccini’s opera “La Bohéme.”

Considered to be one of the most beloved operas ever written, “La Bohème” tells a story of love, life, and loss. It is based on the novel “Scénes de la vie de bohéme” by Henri Murger and centers on four young and carefree souls and the women that two of them love.

Since its premiere in 1896, the opera has captivated audiences across the world. It eventually became the inspiration behind the wildly successful Tony Award-winning musical “Rent.”

This production, featuring sets from Pittsburgh Opera, includes Penn State School of Music students and alumni as principal singers and the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gerardo Edelstein. The opera will be performed in its traditional Italian with English supertitles.

The production will go on Saturday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for the production are $32 for adults, $18 for University Park students, and $18 for anyone under the age of 18. They may be purchased at the box office in Eisenhower Auditorium or online.
