Cecil Blutcher Starts The Party At Movin’ On

Movin’ On 2016 is finally here, but before we get to Walk The Moon or Nelly, a special opening act from Penn State kicked off the show. Chicago-born rapper and Penn State grad student Cecil Blutcher finally got his chance to shine in front of a huge crowd at the IM Fields after taking down his competition at the Battle of the Bands.

Each year, one Penn Stater is selected by judges at the Battle of the Bands a month before Movin’ On for the opportunity to open the event. Blutcher didn’t disappoint, winning over judges with euphoric energy and smooth lyrics to win the event.

Blutcher brought that same that same energy and enthusiasm once again to start his performance on stage at Movin’ On. After making the crowd “solemnly swear to turn the fuck up,” Blutcher opened his set with music from his LP Higher Education.

After some technical issues, Blutcher continued his set with a cover of “Find Your Love” in honor of Drake’s new album coming out. He moved on to perform his own song “Birthday Wishes,” which is about him wishing the Lord will give him the strength to keep doing what he’s doing.

As Blutcher wrapped up his set, many more people filtered in, which visibly motivated Blutcher during his performance. The crowd was feeling his message even before he finished off with the song “Blast Off.” Blutcher exited the stage after his great performance as the crowd chanted “Cecil.”

Maybe he finally opened that sports bar named after one of his photos, the Blurry Zamboni. Or he might just be eating chicken tenders and couch surfing. Anything’s possible.
