Student Bicyclist Hit By Car

A 22-year-old Penn State student on a bike collided with a car at the intersection of South Atherton St. and Westerly Parkway on Monday, according to a release from the State College Police Department.

Police responded to the South Atherton St. and Westerly Pkwy. intersection at 11:18 a.m. A 34-year-old driving a black Kia Sorento was traveling southbound on South Atherton St. and turned left onto Westerly Parkway, where the car collided with the bicyclist traveling northbound on South Atherton St.

The student bicyclist was transported to Altoona UPMC by Centre LifeLink and his/her injuries appeared serious, but not life threatening. The operator of the Kia Sorento was uninjured.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information should call State College Police at (814) 234-7150.
