Men’s Soccer Falls At Home To St. Francis 3-1

Penn State (2-2-1) continued its home stretch Friday night against St. Francis as the second game of a doubleheader with women’s soccer. The Red Flash (3-2-0) came into Happy Valley hoping to take down the Nittany Lions for just the second time. Penn State couldn’t follow up the women’s team with another victory on the night in a loss to St. Francis 3-1.

How It Happened

There wasn’t much action in the opening minutes of the game, but St. Francis would seize an opportunity in the 22nd minute. Troye Kiernan had an open look at the top of the box and ripped it past Arie Ammann to give the Red Flash a 1-0 lead.

Penn State looked more lively after the goal, creating a few solid chances. However, St. Francis would strike again in the 38th minute to put the Nittany Lions in a 2-0 hole. On a corner kick Nicco Mastrangelo ran near post and headed the ball past Ammann for the goal.

Penn State came out lively in the second half and pushed the Red Flash back into their own final third. It didn’t result in much during the final 45.

The Red Flash put away the Nittany Lions for good in the 82nd minute. Troye Kiernan scored his second of the game with another shot Arie Ammann couldn’t do anything about. Christian Sload got a consolation goal late as St. Francis went on to win 3-1.
