College GameDay Will Return To Happy Valley For White Out Game

It’s finally coming back to our city.

For the first time since 2009, Penn State football announced that ESPN will bring College GameDay to Happy Valley on October 21 for the White Out game against Michigan.

This is the sixth time in history that the show will broadcast live from Penn State. Here’s every game that the crew has been in town for:

November 8, 1997 | No. 4 Michigan at No. 3 Penn State | Wolverines win, 34-8
August 28, 1999 | No. 4 Arizona at No. 3 Penn State | Nittany Lions win 41-7
October 8, 2005 | No. 6 Ohio State at No. 16 Penn State | Nittany Lions win, 17-10
October 27, 2007 | No. 1 Ohio State at No. 25 Penn State | Buckeyes win, 37-17
September 26, 2009 | Iowa at No. 4 Penn State | Hawkeyes win, 21-10

Since that most recent game in 2009, the Nittany Lions have been the College GameDay featured matchup three times — twice in 2010 on the road at Alabama and Ohio State, and last season for the Big Ten Championship.

The choice to come to the Penn State-Michigan game wasn’t necessarily a surprising one, with this being the first clash between two top 25 teams in Beaver Stadium since the Nebraska game in November of 2011.

With two other likely top 25 games on the docket — Notre Dame-USC and Navy-UCF — it wasn’t a given that GameDay would make its return, especially after the Wolverines lost last weekend and just barely escaped Indiana in overtime on Saturday.

The show runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday morning, but to you’ll need to get there much earlier to guarantee a good spot behind the set. The White Out game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and air on ABC.
