Indigo To Rebrand As ‘The Basement Nightspot’ After Renovations

After announcing the closing of Indigo Nightclub, Hotel State College and Co. will rebrand the popular College Ave. bar as “The Basement Nightspot.” The name change follows major renovations anticipated for the club.

“Indigo has had an amazing run but the lifespan of a nightclub is significantly less than that of a traditional bar. We are excited to be able to offer our customers a newer and nicer venue to create another decade of memories in,” said Curtis Shulman, Hotel State College’s director of operations.

The new venture is expected to open August 23 — the Thursday of Syllabus week.

The space has long been used as a nightclub, previously known as Player’s prior to becoming Indigo in 2008.

Indigo is the third downtown bar to close in the last year. The All-American Rathskeller, which reopened as Doggie’s All-American Rathskeller and Garden, closed in late January, while Darkhorse Tavern closed just before Arts Fest after the owner’s retirement.

You lose a little piece of history with each of these closures, but as Indigo transitions, we have just one request: Keep dollar teas on Thursdays.
