Penn State men’s basketball may have found its first opponent of the 2021-22 season.

According to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein, the Nittany Lions will open the season at home against Youngstown State on Wednesday, November 10. It would be the first game for Micah Shrewsberry as head coach of the Nittany Lions.

The reportedly scheduled matchup would be Penn State’s second game in school history against the Penguins. The last time the two teams played in 2011, Penn State won 82-71.

The Nittany Lions will have a new look when they tip off on November 10. Several players have transferred from the program, including stars Myreon Jones, Jamari Wheeler, and Trent Buttrick. Seth Lundy and John Harrar, however, decided to stay with the program, and Shrewsberry was able to bring in transfers Jaheam Cornwall, Jalen Pickett, and Greg Lee.

The 2021-22 non-conference schedule is beginning to come together. Along with this announcement, Penn State will play St. Francis Brooklyn, LSU, and either Wake Forest or Oregon State in the Emerald Coast Classic over Thanksgiving. More game announcements should come to fruition over the summer.
