Free Summer Film Series Returns To State College Starting May 6

State College’s First Friday series has returned for the spring and summer seasons, and with it comes a handful of free movie nights in the borough.

Four movies will be offered at Sidney Friedman Parklet on South Fraser Street throughout the summer. Showings will begin at dusk, and attendance is free for all film lovers.

Beginning on May 6, the Downtown State College Improvement District will play “Annie,” an American classic about a spunky young orphan who is taken in by an eccentric woman who runs the orphanage. On June 3, folks can watch “Luca”, an Oscar-nominated Pixar film about a young boy who befriends a sea monster disguised as a human.

The third film showing of the summer is “Encanto”, a recent Oscar-winning Disney feature about a Colombian teenager who struggles as the only family member without magical powers. “Encanto” will play on July 1.

On August 5, “Charlotte’s Web” will conclude the summer film series.

In addition to the four announced movie showings, folks can check out live music that will be played at Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza at each First Friday event. Check out our preview for more details on the upcoming downtown festivities.
