Penn State Wrestling’s Brandon Meredith Transfers To South Dakota State

Former Penn State wrestler Brandon Meredith announced Tuesday that he’s transferring to South Dakota State to finish his wrestling career.

Meredith, who spent four seasons with the Nittany Lions, is the second Penn State wrestler to leave the program this offseason, joining Michael Beard, who transferred to Lehigh just over a month ago.

“I want to express my gratitude to my teammates and coaches at Penn State,” Meredith wrote. “I wouldn’t trade my experience here for the world. Penn State has truly been home for me, and it has shaped me into the person and wrestler I am today as well.”

Meredith redshirted his first season in Happy Valley in 2018-19 before earning the starting spot at 125 pounds the next year. During the 2019-20 season, he posted a 13-16 record. The Limerick, Pennsylvania, native wrestled at 133 pounds during his final two years with the Nittany Lions and posted a combined 5-7 record.

Before coming to Penn State, Meredith was a four-time regional qualifier and three-time PIAA state qualifier at Spring-Ford Area High School. He left as the school’s all-time winningest wrestler with 150 wins.

Despite losing both Meredith and Beard this offseason, Cael Sanderson and Co. have made some additions to the squad by adding Ohio State transfer Will Betancourt and getting verbal pledges from a few prospects, including Connor Pierce and Dalton Perry. Pierce is a Class of 2022 prospect, while Perry lands in the 2025 class.
