Four Diamonds Video Explains Roots

The word THON has left the lips of nearly every single Penn State student at least once for the past 37 years. In the same vein, nearly every student and alumni have a general idea of what THON is all about. If you were to survey any one student still awake in a 100 Thomas lecture, he would probably respond with " it’s the largest student-run philanthropy" or ‘"it’s FTK." Both correct. But what if you were to ask how it got started, or what exactly the Four Diamonds represent--would they know?

Recently, Onward State got a hold of a new video vignette released by The Four Diamonds Fund. The video, featuring Four Diamonds visionaries Charles and Irma Millard, Tucker Haas, and countless other Four Diamond Families, explains the roots of The Four Diamonds Fund and THON.

You can find out about the history of the Four Diamonds Fund and check out the video after the jump.

Help Feed Happy Valley…Again!

You might remember Wal-Mart giving out "buttloads" of $5 giftcards to State College residents right before last Thanksgiving. Months later, they are at it again.

Wal-Mart has sent out another batch of $5 gift cards to off-campus Penn Staters. Rather then making the trek all the way out to Wal-Mart to spend your card on a surplus of Warheads and Solo cups, donate it to people who need it most. Our friends at the State College Area Food Bank will put the money into good hands.

Relay For Life Breaks Record!

"Through sleet and snow, Penn State students didn’t stop showing their passion for the cause. Because of that passion, Penn State’s Relay for Life was an incredible success,” said Sponsorship Overall Eric Singer after Saturday’s Relay for Life closing ceremony. Countless laps, 24 hours, an El Nino-esque weekend, and $101,273 later, Penn State’s 2010 Relay for Life did in fact earn the right to be called an "incredible success."

Sound like something you and a few of your friends might be interested joining? A very important meeting will be held this Wednesday (3/24) in room 267 Willard at 7:00 PM.
