Izaiah Brockington Transfers To Iowa State

Former Penn State men’s basketball guard Izaiah Brockington announced that he will transfer to Iowa State for the 2021-22 season, he announced on Twitter Wednesday.

On May 4, CBS insider Jon Rothstein reported that Brockington had narrowed his list to just four schools, the other three being eliminated in favor of the Cyclones.

The Philadelphia native began his career at St. Bonaventure before coming to Happy Valley for the past two seasons. Brockington will be a senior with Iowa State but can play for two more years due to the NCAA granting every athlete an additional season due to COVID-19.

During his time in Happy Valley, Brockington was a consistent starter for both Pat Chambers and Jim Ferry. He averaged 12.6 points per game in the 2020/21 campaign on 43% shooting, good for second on the team behind Myreon Jones.

The announcement ends a lengthy transfer saga this offseason for the guard. Brockington entered the transfer portal in March, before announcing he would return to play for the Nittany Lions in a since-deleted tweet.

A month later, the former Penn Stater changed his mind once again, reentering the transfer portal. Now, Iowa State marks Brockington’s third home in four years.

Brockington’s departure now marks the fifth player to leave the Nittany Lions this offseason. The mass exodus included Jones, who left for SEC power Florida, and Jamari Wheeler, who will suit up for Ohio State next winter. Trent Buttrick will play his final year at UMass, while redshirt freshman Patrick Kelly left for Fordham in April

However, incoming head coach Micah Shrewberry has done some work of his own in regards to personnel. Big names such as John Harrar and Seth Lundy announced they’d return to the program, while Jaheam Cornwall and Jalen Pickett will transfer to Penn State from Gardner-Webb and Siena, respectively.
