We Want To Hear Your Worst Bigler Hall Stories

bigler curtin renovations

Built in 1961, Bigler Hall was a beloved home for thousands of incoming Penn Staters. Sixty years later, Bigler, the dreaded staple of East Halls, is finally vacant and under construction.

Bigler Hall was the oldest in East, and it was noticeable. Unlike other dorms, there was no grand workspace in Bigler’s lobby or even light-up buttons in the elevators. In fact, sometimes the elevator doors needed to be physically pried open.

If the elevators breaking weren’t enough, halfway through the last school year, the mirrors were removed in the fourth-floor women’s bathroom, leaving residents just staring at each other while brushing their teeth. So, to put it simply, by the end of its life, Bigler was falling to pieces compared to its counterparts.

With renovations finally underway, we’ll surely miss random tubs in the bathrooms, the floor tiles that would always fall out, or the elevators we felt doomed to be stuck in.

To reminisce on our old friend, now’s the chance to honor the “Dirty Big” and share your stories. If you lived in Bigler Hall or spent any memorable time there, we want to hear from you. Send in your best Bigler Hall stories to be potentially featured on our site.
